How Many Bikes Do You Need?
Need. That's an interesting concept when it comes to bikes. Let me tell you a little story.
I started off on a Hardrock Sport mountain bike. At the time, I was a little worried about spending £400 on a bike, that's a lot of money (little did I know). So, I pootled around for a year or two on that bike, eventually realising that there are so many advantages to being a biker it's not even funny.
I lost weight (nearly three stone to date), I'm fitter than I've ever been, I've saved £££'s on petrol to name but a few.
However, I was getting pretty bored seeing roadies blast past me with relative ease on the roads. How were they doing it? So, I "needed" to buy myself a road bike to find out.
I won't go into how many bikes I own now, but it's more than one. One bike is never enough, and if you've got the space/money, you need more than one bike. That's the rule. I'm not making this up, it's an actual biking rule.
There's one very simple equation you need to be aware of:
x = desired number of bikes
n = number of bikes currently owned
So, you end up with: x = n + 1
So what does this mean? It's simple. You always need one more bike. ALWAYS. Here are some of the permutations.
Got a mountain bike? You need a road bike.
Got a road bike? You need a mountain bike.
Got a mountain & road bike? You need a Cyclocross bike.
Got a mountain/road/CX bike? You need a full suspension mountain bike.
Got mountain (both full and hard tail)/road/CX bikes? You need a hybrid
Sorry, but this list can go on and on. There's always one more bike out there with your name on it.
